Easiest would be to just suggest you do a search on "Rabbid Puppies", "Sad Puppies" and "Vox Day", but in a nutshell, led by the latter (also known as Theodore Beal, a racist, sexist and — if I'm not mistaken — avowed neo-Nazi science fiction "fan") has for two years running gamed the Hugo Award nominations. Last year, their slate won almost every nomination, which resulted in No Award "winning" in nearly every category.
This year, they've gotten a little more clever, including a few "literary" authors among their slate, thus muddying the ideological waters.
It's an ugly, but fascinating, example of how a small group of thugs can (maybe permanently) ruin things for the rest of us. (I use "us" loosely; I've never attended any convention, let alone participated in a WorldCon.
