... that Dead show I saw at the Kingswood, way back when?

Fucking amazing; I'm so glad I have the tape (even if I can't remember how the hell I came by it). It's the Grateful Dead at their peak, or one of them.

Not so much psychedelic anymore, as a band having just found its way back to rock 'n roll roots and now deciding it wants to be elsewhere. The tempo is faster, more driving; the jams are tight - you'd almost think, rehearsed. Jug-band meets jazz. Europe meets Africa, by way of French North America.

For an hour and a half, if you let it, the music will take you away to another world; a secondary creation, perhaps, but a Creation nevertheless, whole and entirely self-consistent.

Ahem.

No, I missed that one. I saw them in Syracuse in '82 (if memory serves) and again at the KingsWOOD (the hideously-named "Canada's Wonderland") in '84. Spent the next decade saying I'd go see 'em again "one of these days" and then Garcia up and died on me.

And I was never a hippy, though I often could have passed for one so long as I kept my mouth closed and my cynicism to myself.

Mind terribly if I add you? You don’t need to return the gesture considering I hardly update (actually, come to think of it, I have yet to update) though I do read journals (mostly comms and feeders at the moment) and drop a cent or two from time to time.

In the past few days, I’ve come to enjoy your journal entries.

Mind terribly? Truth is, I don't mind at all. Welcome aboard.
