Mis-spent youth department or, of hockey and (bad) poetry [May. 4th, 2010|12:56 am]

"Thanks" to mijopo I found myself compelled look up a poem I wrote for my high school writing class. It's a bad poem, with lurid, somewhat nonsensical imagery, a central metaphor that gets displaced by another one, a strange use of the letter y in place of i and, generally, no evidence for an ear for poetry whatsoever.

But it amuses me almost as much as it embarrasses me. If you care for a peak into one of my not-so-good early writerly moments, click away.

Well, you've got some nice bathos going on there :)

Poetry is not my forte either, so I'm incredibly relieved that I get to focus on prose next year at uni and don't have to fondle mushrooms anymore and lyricise my feelings about them. Although Sylvia Plath did write an excellent poem about mushrooms, I didn't find the button cups very inspiring. Tasty though.

Anyway, it's better for you to look back and see how much you've improved rather thank think, "Damn, I used up all my mojo already." :)

"Fondle mushrooms"?

Er, I think you haven't been posting nearly enough, or else I've been neglecting my F-list even more than I thought I'd been.

What's this about mushrooms and lyricising about them again?

you're welcome! Had my archiving been better I could probably dig up something similar I'd written for Mike Palmateer.
